How much does a YouTube thumbnail cost in 2026? The real prices

A YouTube thumbnail costs between €15 and €80 when you order it in France, and around €200 from an established designer. Below €15, you’re on international platforms where quality is a lottery. We checked prices on September 11, 2026 on ComeUp and at agencies, and we put a number on the DIY route, software and time included. Miniads is one of the agencies mentioned: we flag it every time.

Prices by level, in one table

Checked on September 11, 2026. On freelance platforms, prices vary from one seller to the next: treat these numbers as benchmarks, not a fixed rate card.

Fiverr and international platforms: from $5

On Fiverr, YouTube thumbnail gigs start at $5, and established sellers tend to list $25 to $50 as their starting price. These are the starting prices shown on the gigs: we couldn’t check the details of every add-on.

The entry price is unbeatable, but it’s a lottery: quality varies from one order to the next, communication isn’t always smooth, and the designs are often built for an audience that isn’t yours. Useful for testing a style, risky for building a channel.

ComeUp: €15 to €80, but check the add-ons

On ComeUp, the French freelance platform, we found three thumbnail offers on September 11, 2026: €15 with 2 revisions and 1-day delivery, €30 with 2 revisions in 2 days, and €80 with a single revision included. The listed price is only a starting point: unlimited revisions cost €10 more on the last offer, and the Photoshop file (PSD) €30 to €40 depending on the seller.

To compare offers properly, work out the full price: the thumbnail, the revisions you’ll actually need, and the source file if you want to be able to edit it yourself later.

Specialized agencies: €35 to €80, cheaper in packs

French agencies charge between €35 and €80 per thumbnail. With us, it’s €78 for one, €669 for 10, then a sliding scale down to €55 per thumbnail for 30. Miniamea charges €79 for one and €699 for 10. In both cases, titles and unlimited revisions are included. We put the two side by side, price, offer and target client, in our Miniamea vs Miniads comparison. The full market comparison, with turnaround times and what to look for, is in our article on thumbnail agencies.

An established designer: around €200

At the top of the market, a well-known designer charges about €200 per image, and up to €400 when it has to be delivered fast, according to an LADN investigation into the people working behind the scenes for YouTubers (2023). The same article mentions beginners at €25 or €35. At that price, you’re paying for art direction built for your channel, by someone who knows the codes of your niche.

What does a full-time thumbnail designer cost?

Past a certain volume, some channels want someone working just for them. Actual employment is still rare. The best-known case: Aziatack, Inoxtag’s thumbnail designer, became the first in the profession to land a permanent full-time contract in September 2025, paid around €3,000 a month, according to INA’s La revue des médias. Further down the pay scale, a public listing for a permanent junior thumbnail designer role in Paris, posted in early September 2026, offered €1,795 to €2,200 a month, without saying whether that was gross or net.

Most of the time, creators ask a freelancer for exclusivity without hiring them, as Stup reports. On the earnings side, LADN quotes an 18-year-old freelance thumbnail designer earning €1,000 to €2,000 a month. The job is covered in detail in what a thumbnail designer does.

The real cost of doing it yourself

Making your own thumbnails isn’t free, even with free software. On the tools side, Photoshop costs €26.21 a month incl. VAT on a one-year commitment, or €314.35 paid upfront. Photopea runs in your browser with no subscription, and Figma has a free plan. So does Canva: we went through its limits in making your thumbnail in Canva.

The biggest cost is your time. One training site for thumbnail designers puts it at 1 to 2 hours of work per thumbnail (formation-miniamaker.fr). At 4 videos a month, that’s 4 to 8 hours: if your hour is worth €50, that’s €200 to €400 of your time every month, not counting the learning curve. To get off on the right foot, start with your thumbnail’s font and size.

What drives the price

  • Experience. Between a €25 beginner and a €200 established designer, you’re paying for years of testing across different niches.
  • Turnaround. Rush jobs cost more: up to €400 for an in-demand designer who has to deliver fast, according to LADN.
  • Revisions. 1 or 2 included on platforms, unlimited at agencies that put it in writing in their offer.
  • The source file. The PSD is often an add-on, €30 to €40 on the offers we checked.
  • Strategy. Research on your niche, an angle and titles, or just executing your brief.
  • Volume. In a pack of 10, each thumbnail works out 11 to 14% cheaper at agencies that list that rate.

The number that matters: what each extra view costs you

The price of a thumbnail means nothing on its own. What matters is the click-through rate it gets: according to YouTube Help, half of all channels and videos sit between 2 and 10%. On a video shown 20,000 times, going from 4% to 6% CTR means 400 more views. The benchmarks are broken down in what’s a good CTR on YouTube.

If an €80 thumbnail gets that gain over a €15 one, the €65 difference buys you 400 views at roughly €0.16 each, on a single video. Is that expensive? It’s hard to compare with ads: Google Ads doesn’t publish an average cost per view, and an ad view is only billed after 30 seconds of watch time, or at the end of the ad if it’s shorter (Google Ads Help). The right benchmark is what a view earns you. If your channel sells a product or a service, a single extra customer covers the difference.

Everything hinges on that “if”. Before you switch providers, test a single thumbnail with YouTube Studio’s A/B testing tool.
