Thumbnail agency: prices, services and how to choose in 2026

A thumbnail agency designs your YouTube thumbnails, and often your titles too, with a team instead of a single graphic designer. We recorded the prices of four French agencies on September 11, 2026: expect €35 to €80 per thumbnail one at a time, and around €67 to €70 in a pack of 10 at the agencies that publish that rate. We also list the 6 things we would check ourselves before ordering. To be clear: Miniads is one of those agencies, and we flag it every time.

What a thumbnail agency does, and a graphic designer doesn't

A graphic designer executes a brief. A thumbnail designer starts from a different question: why would someone click your video instead of the one next to it? So the work starts before Photoshop. We look at what works in your niche and we pick an angle. The thumbnail text has to complete the title rather than repeat it. The job is spelled out in what a thumbnail designer is.

And the thumbnail carries a lot of weight: according to YouTube's own documentation, “90% of the best-performing videos on YouTube have custom thumbnails”.

On the deliverable, the minimum to ask for: an image ready to upload in the format YouTube recommends today, 3840 x 2160 pixels in 16:9, 640 pixels wide at the very least. Plus title suggestions, the way three of the four agencies in the table below do.

Agency or freelancer: what changes for you

A talented freelance thumbnail designer makes excellent thumbnails. But they work alone: when they are booked out, sick or on vacation, your video waits. An agency spreads that risk across a team and puts a turnaround time in writing in the offer.

A freelancer is still a good call if you publish rarely and you have found someone whose style fits your niche. An agency makes more sense as soon as you publish every week: consistent turnaround then matters more than one person's talent. We compared the whole market, freelance platforms included, in our comparison of YouTube thumbnail services.

Miniads is us. €78 per thumbnail, €669 for 10, then a sliding rate down to €55 per thumbnail for 30. Unlimited revisions, delivery in under 48 h once your brief is confirmed, direct messaging on WhatsApp. 5,000 thumbnails delivered to more than 300 channels, including Yomi Denzel and TF1.

Miniamea targets business channels and course creators. €79 for one thumbnail with 3 titles, €699 for a pack of 10 with 3 titles per video, 48 h delivery, unlimited revisions. They also sell a 12-week coaching program, priced on request. We compare it to our offer in detail in Miniamea vs Miniads. For that business audience, we explain how a channel turns into an acquisition channel in YouTube for entrepreneurs.

MiniatureYouTube.com competes on price: €35 to €80 per thumbnail depending on the plan, delivered in 24 to 72 h, with subscriptions of 10, 20 or 30 thumbnails a month for channels that publish a lot.

Venuza doesn't only sell thumbnails: their creative bundle starts at €59 incl. VAT and covers thumbnails, titles, editing and art direction. The details are worked out in a quote, over WhatsApp.

Why prices vary by more than double

Between €35 and €80, you are not buying the same thing. Three things set the price: the time spent before the design (niche research, angle, titles), the revisions included, and volume. At the two agencies that publish a pack of 10, a thumbnail comes out 11 to 14% cheaper than buying one at a time.

Look above all at what isn't written down. A cheap offer with a capped number of revisions, then revisions billed on top, sometimes ends up costing more than an all-inclusive offer. Every price on the market, freelancers included, is in how much a YouTube thumbnail costs.

The 6 things to check before you order

  • A portfolio in your niche. An agency that is excellent at gaming can be average at business. Ask for thumbnails from channels that look like yours, not their greatest hits.
  • A turnaround time written into the offer. "48 h" on the sales page is a commitment. "Fast" is a vague promise.
  • Unlimited revisions. Otherwise every tweak turns into a negotiation, and you end up publishing a version you only half like.
  • Strategy included. The agency should analyze your niche and bring you an angle, a text and titles. If all it does is execute your brief, you are paying a graphic designer at thumbnail designer rates.
  • Someone you can actually reach. A revision that waits three days for an email reply is a video published late. Watch how the agency answers you, and how fast.
  • The rights to the image. Paying for a thumbnail does not automatically give you the rights to it: the creator keeps them until they transfer them to you (article L111-1 of the French Intellectual Property Code). Read the clause in the terms of sale: it should say where you are allowed to use the thumbnail. With us, a thumbnail you have paid for is transferred to you for commercial use on YouTube and social media; anything beyond that, we put in writing.

The cheapest-price trap

The number to watch is the thumbnail's click-through rate, far more than its price. According to YouTube Help, half of all channels and videos have a click-through rate between 2% and 10%. At equal impressions, the top of that range brings in five times more views than the bottom. We broke these benchmarks down in what counts as a good CTR on YouTube.

Run the numbers on a video shown 20,000 times. At a 3% click rate, it gets 600 views. At 6%, 1,200. If an €80 thumbnail doubles your click rate compared with a €35 one, the €45 difference buys you 600 extra views, which works out at 7.5 cents a view, on a single video. As long as the video keeps being shown, that gap keeps growing.

Everything rests on that "if". A pricier thumbnail that doesn't click better is money burned. And a click wrung out of a misleading thumbnail gets paid for later: on the same page, YouTube points out that those videos get short watch times and are recommended less. Be wary too of agencies that guarantee a number of views. Nobody controls how many times YouTube will show your video. An agency can commit to what it controls, like turnaround time and revisions.

How to test an agency before you commit

Order a single thumbnail before you take a pack. It is the only test worth anything: on your niche, with your viewers.

To measure it, use YouTube Studio's A/B test tool. You put up to three titles and thumbnails against each other on the same video, and YouTube keeps the version that generates the most watch time. Expect anywhere from a few days to two weeks depending on your impressions, and plan on using a computer: the tool doesn't exist in the app. The step-by-step method is in how to test your YouTube thumbnails.

At Miniads, the trial thumbnail is the Pack Flash: €78, no subscription, delivered in under 48 h, unlimited revisions included.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a thumbnail agency cost?

Between €35 and €80 per thumbnail when you order one at a time from the French agencies compared here, based on the prices they listed in September 2026. In a pack of 10, expect €66.90 per thumbnail at Miniads and €69.90 at Miniamea, titles and unlimited revisions included.

What is the difference between a thumbnail designer and a graphic designer?

A graphic designer executes a brief. A thumbnail designer starts from the click: they study your niche, pick the angle and write the thumbnail text so it completes the title. The design comes after.

Is a thumbnail agency a fit for a small channel?

Yes, if you publish regularly. Start with a single thumbnail so you can judge the actual work. With us, Antoine started from zero and gained 42,000 subscribers in his first year.

Who owns the rights to a thumbnail made by an agency?

The person who made it, until they transfer those rights to you: commissioning a design is not enough to transfer its rights. Check what the transfer covers in the agency's terms of sale before you reuse a thumbnail outside YouTube.
